[Oer-community] Revisiting the issue of collaboration

Susan and Kim, I absolutely agree with both of you

The idea behind was more in the sense of empowering our own
collectiveness based on the benefits of this "work together" approach we
all agree upon

Let me share with all you what's my experience sometimes while I'm
traveling in our countries. Many times while I'm visiting in official
mission our countries I get in contact with amazing professionals,
institutions and projects. Very strong institutional initiatives that
most of the time are not as known as they should by others colleagues
trying to work on the same field outside their own country.

Again it was more in the sense of enhancing the actual added value
everyone had already brought to the table

It also could be even more "cost effective" since may be it will help us
not to overlap and use the scarce resources available to make the
movement even bigger

Best

Cecilia

Dear Kim,

You are right, in this community our individual location is no
limitation to our interaction.

The interest in a geographic representation of OER initiatives has been
raised because often we do not know all initiatives in our own area - or
of all initiatives in our own language but outside our ownarea.

The idea of a local hub relates to the suggestions of several members of
this group that collecting information on OER initiatives could be of
interest and possibly more efficiently collected at the local level.

Best,

Susan

Susan,

I'm not sure I understand the benefit. We are a community linked by
ideas and initiatives, and not restricted by geographical boundaries. I
think that's actually our best feature. Is this request made because
some are considering a face-to-face initiative, or because there are
specific regional needs that may only be met by those within the region?
If it is the latter, I think the best solution would a data search
function that allows users to access by the required criterea.

Dear colleagues,

To follow up on the several messages related to organizing collaboration
for data collection, would it be feasible to consider regional or
national hubs?

Best,

Susan

Dear colleagues

It is really nice an encouraging seeing all the contributions and
sharing experiences that have been pulled together these last days.

An unexpected trip makes it difficult for me to participate before but
now hopefully I can catch up

When I first meet Susan last year in NY one of the topics that we
immediately started talking was the mapping and the concept of sharing
knowledge

Since then at the OAS Educational Portal of the Americas we have been
trying to spread the word to make the movement stronger in our region
(the 34 countries that are part of the OAS in the Americas)

We would love to explore the idea of collecting information in our
region collaboratively with countries and other institutions.

We have also been discussing the possibility of an "Awareness program"
in our region since one of the conclusion of a virtual dialogue we had
as part of our Summits process last year showed that there is a
tremendous need for that too

Love to continue talking with all of you and see how we collectively can
make a difference

Dear Tamar,

Which organization or institution in the region would be able to
establish such a database?

Dear Susan, Dear Colleagues,

I think that weather information is gathered locally or regionally
depends on a particular region. For example, for Caucasus it would be
better to establish a regional database of OER resources, because the
amount of local OER is not so big yet.

Kindest regards,

Tamar

Subject: [Oer-community] Global Open Access Map - lessons for OER?

Dear Colleagues,

If we are to consider the appropriate organization for creating a list
of all OER Institutional initiatives, Alma's message points to an
approach that might be appropriate for the OER community at large (not
just our group).

She spoke of "crowdsourcing" - using a form on the web page for
submission of information by individuals..

If we were to start to create a simple database (that could create a
list or a visual map) - aiming at a comprehensive list of institutional
projects for a start, could the information be collected and checked
locally or regionally, as one message suggested?

Best,

Susan
