Including the subject/discipline in a geographic mapping  is a great idea
with the potential to facilitate curricular mapping.

Towards that end, though, I would look to a more robust classification of
subjects/disciplines than ISCED (whether 1997 or the 2011 prospective
revision).  The British "Joint Academic Coding System" (JACS) is one such
classification.  Library science, of course, gives us many possible
frameworks, of which Universal Decimal Classification is perhaps the best
suited to this task.
