[Oer-community] OER Mapping and Communicate OER - a synergy

Dear all,

We are working on a draft report of our conversation of the past weeks, and
expect to have it to you soon.

One of the uses of a visual map is communication and the importance of
having tools for communication lay behind the planned discussion. It made
sense to ask the Communicate OER project to be involved in the preparation
of the weekly summaries. Sara prepared the summaries, and Pete followed the
conversation and put his hand in too. It has proved to be a nice synergy.

You might want to connect with this important project - see Pete's message
below for details.

My best,

Susan

Dear Susan and all,

Thank you for hosting the excellent OER Mapping discussion. It has been a
pleasure to follow along.

I hope the participants will bring their energy to Communicate OER. This
project is well aligned with the Mapping initiative, and is a great place
for people seeking to discuss and resolve issues around OER and openness in
education. Our focus is making sure Wikipedia articles relating to OER are
accurate, useful, and up to date.

You had many knowledgeable people engaged in discussion. Those discussions
included the kind of knowledge that should be reflected in Wikipedia
articles. There is so much knowledge in this community that is difficult
for a newcomer to access. By working together to improve Wikipedia
articles, which are viewed hundreds or thousands of times per month, we are
beginning to address that disconnect. Newcomers are always welcome in our
project!

As the new year begins, we hope people from your discussion will join our
team, participate in our weekly Edit Days, and/or join our online course
under development in the School of Open. Joining our email list (
http://j.mp/CommOERemail ) is the best first step to stay in the loop!
People can learn more about the project, and join our team, by visiting our
Wikipedia page ( http://enwp.org/WP:COMMOER ).

Best,
-Pete
