LRMI was specifically tasked with creating a way of describing learning
resources in the context of schema.org, that is microdata (or RDFa Lite)
embedded in the HTML of web pages. The approach is quite different from
the stand-alone XML records of IMS LRM/IEEE LOM. That said the
characteristics being described are the same, and 10 years worth of
experience with educational metadata standards like IMS LRM, IEEE LOM,
DC-Ed certainly helped in deciding which characteristics were (and were
not) worth encoding.
