Hi Rory

That is my understanding as well -- you cannot apply copyright to facts or
data.

However, it is possible to copyright the structure of a database - - that
is the unique structure and architecture of the information (not the data
itself). At a practical level -  in the absence of open APIs to readily
access the data, technology can be used as a "gatekeeper" or  barrier to
access of the data.
