You should also look at EPUB3 and Smalltalk/Etoys. We have 4 million
student users of Etoys on OLPC XOs so far. Etoys uses the Smalltalk
virtual machine to run on almost anything bit-identically.

I am currently working on an Etoys Reference Manual at

and intend to write Etoys By Example, showing how students can build
interactive OERs, right afterwards.
