[Oer-community] A reflection

And, even more than just "encouraging neighbouring institutions to develop their own OER awareness and initiatives", another positive outcome of this mapping exercise would be to encourage cooperation between neighbouring institutions, sharing expertise and strengths to develop OER in a dynamic of complementarity.

Just a thought…

Just to throw in my two cents...
On a simpler level, highlighting the geographical location of where OER innovations are occurring could act as a catalyst for encouraging neighbouring (and often competing) institutions to develop their own OER awareness and initiatives. This can only help to grow the community.

Just two points I would like to make:

1. An OER map could serve to educate those outside this community about the breadth and depth of the movement.

2. There are tools such as those used by the public health community to report outbreaks, that could make self reporting possible, thereby making it easier to keep the map up to date.
