Dear Colleagues,

I have several more messages to forward from colleagues who are
travelling.....this one from Bakary Diallo, Rector of the African Virtual
University which works in three languages - English, French and Portuguese.
This touches on one of the issues raised in the discussion yesterday - the
importance of the language of OER initiatives.

Best,
Susan

Dear Susan,

The OER community has grown significantly over the last decade. However, it
is not always easy to get information on the players and their activities.
Collaboration is a key success factor for developing and using OERs, this
the main reason why AVU has been supporting the rationale for an OER world
map since 2011. More specifically, an OER world map will assist in
creating an enabling environment for collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Such an environment will be an asset for the following objectives of the
AVU OERs:****

**1. **Increase access to quality and relevant education through the
innovative use of information and communication technologies****

**2. **Develop and share OERs that are relevant to Africa‘s development**
**

**3. **Create, maintain and improve an African based OER library****

**4. **Facilitate adoption of OERs in the AVU network****

**5. **Build synergies with other OERs and OCW bodies.****

** **

An OER world may also enhance access AVU OERs available at
